LINE Manga Tops Japan’s App Revenue in H1 2025 with Piccoma Coming Second

Based on iOS and Android consumer spending, LINE Manga came in 1st with Piccoma coming second. It’s been one year since LINE Manga overtook Piccoma which was formerly the #1 webtoon app for the Japanese market.

“Windbreaker” Creator Admits to Plagarism and Ends Publishing Run

The creator behind WEBTOON’s long-running hit series, “Windbreaker”, uploaded a creator’s note admitting to plagarising scenes from other series’. The series will end immediately, but it’s brought back sour memories of Webtoon’s 2023 plagarism scandals.

RIDI Launches a K-Drama Short Form Video App in Japan, Kanta

Ridibooks just launched a short-form video platform featuring K-drama content for the Japanese market called “Kanta”. The platform will launch new titles every month with a tentpole title featuring Jung Jun-ha and ATEEZ’s Yunho in August.

Millie’s Library Announces Webtoon Launch and Causes Concern

Last week, KT launched “Millie’s Library”, an online book and webnovel service that is available for a flat-rate subscription fee. This week, they announced that the platform will be hosting webtoon content starting in September.

The backlash has been swift with many creators concerned about the diluted revenue share they’ll be receiving from a subscription service.

The trial of former and current Kakao executives in the case of stock price manipulation of SM Entertainment is heading into it’s final court date. This trial involves the founder of Kakao, the chairman of HYBE and many other high-level executives for Kakao.
