"Windbreaker" Update
Things go from bad to... about as bad as they can get.
Last week, one of Naver Webtoon’s biggest international hits and a longstanding pillar in the sports webtoon market, “Windbreaker”, announced that the title would be cancelled due to the creator’s admission of plagarism.
Since then, there’ve been multiple social media posts highlighting some of the panels that were plagarized from other titles (including Japanese Manga titles).
The creator’s note went up on July 11th. Immediately after, Naver Webtoon themselves posted a note confirming the cancellation as well as the reason for the cancellation of the series.
The series then began the actual process of providing users with refunds on the 14th, a very rare occurrence in the webtoon publishing industry (News1).
Among the many things that this action signifies, it almost certainly cements the reality that “Windbreaker” will not be returning to the platform in the future.
Following it’s removal from Webtoon in Korea, it’s also been removed from overseas WEBTOON platforms.
